Southwest Commercial Insurance is proud to support the Texas Lions Camp in aiding children in need. Here's more information from the organization on what they offer:
The Texas Lions Camp is a state of the art residential camping facility for children with physical disabilities, insulin dependent diabetics and cancer.
It was charted in 1949 in response to the polio epidemic that had affected the lives of so many children across Texas. The camp is located on 504 acres in the Texas Hill Country south of Kerrville and is accredited by the American Camping Association and licensed by the Texas Department of Health.
Each week long session starts with check-in on Sunday afternoon and the kids have structured activities each day from the time they wake up in the morning till lights out each night. The kids are free to choose the activities that interest them and are always under the watch full eye of the Camp Counselors that come each summer from all over the world.
The kids go hiking, camping, fishing, horseback riding and many other activities that are now available to children that were limited due to a disability. The camp's motto is "We Can."
Each week long session ends on Friday with a "Graduation Night" where each bunkhouse performs a special skit that they created, directed and performed for the parents and staff. Check out is Saturday morning and all are sad to leave.
The Texas Lions Camp is solely owned and operated by the Lions Clubs of Texas and receives no governmental assistance.
